Lady Gaga is making history again: When the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards roll around September 12, the pop star will have 13 chances to try to take home a Moonman. And, of course, Gaga has her “little monsters” to thank for all the recognition.
“13 VMA noms lil monsters. Breakin records+breakin rules,” she tweeted on Tuesday (August 3) when the nominations went public. “I love you, you Bad Kids are a part of me. PAWS UP! #VideoMonsterAwards.”
Gaga’s nominations include Video of the Year for “Bad Romance,” where she is not only competing against the likes of Eminem, Florence and the Machine, 30 Seconds to Mars, and B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams, she’s also up against herself for her Beyoncé collabo, “Telephone.”
Gaga also finds herself nominated for Best Pop Video (twice), Best Dance Video, Best Collaboration (twice) and Best Female Video (twice), just to name a few. She’s also the first woman to be nominated twice in the Video of the Year category.
Lady Gaga Gaga isn’t just smashing records on the pop charts, she’s also making awards-show history.
The Grammy-winning singer, 24, scored 13 MTV Video Music Award nominations Tuesday – the most ever received by any artist in a single year. The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sept. 12 at 9 p.m. EST.
“I’m so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history,” says Gaga. “Ironically, I’m even more proud it’s an unlucky number: 13.”
She adds: “A long time ago the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard, together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for three reasons: To make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn raucous.

GaGa won World’s Best Single over David Guetta, Beyonce Knowles and Black Eyed Peas. She beat BEP once again in World’s Best Album in addition to Susan Boyle and Taylor Swift. Additionally, she is crowned World’s Best Pop/Rock Artist after battling against Swift, Madonna and Rihanna.
Her fifth trophy was collected from World’s Best New Artist. This time round, the dance queen prevented Canadian teen singer Justin Bieber, “Tik Tok” hitmaker Ke$ha and Britain’s singing sensation Boyle from taking the prize.
The Big Top 40 Show’s Rich and Kat talked with Lady Gaga backstage at the BRITs. Fresh from winning three gongs, she was in typically enigmatic form. All hail the Queen of the BRITs!
